New Narvik hospital

Video from and about the comission by Willhelm Manthler

Cancer Department - "Reflection at Gressdalsvatnet" - Digital photo collage on roof tiles.

A windless summer night created the reflection in the water that is located partly in Nordland and partly in Troms county. I have added animals that can pass by the area during the year. At first glance, you can see the arctic fox and the wolverine. Those who spend longer here will be able to discover both elk, wolf, reindeer, lynx and red fox in the landscape and the reflection. The mountain and the reflection with mountain cracks and snow patches together form shapes and patterns that can be fantasized and reflected on.

Dialysis 2 images + fragments from these. - Digital photo collage on roof tiles. - "The Tree of Life" and "Events in a Flower Field"

I chose to compose images with many details here, as the users spend many hours per week in the room. On some of the roof tiles, people and animals are seen immediately, while some will only be perceived after longer observation. In the tree there are around 30 people in different phases of life who are busy with various things, and in the flower meadow there are both deer, cats and children hiding.

Examination room maternity ward + 2 rooms at GYN - "Above and below the surface in Tysfjorden" - Digital photo collage on ceiling panels.

The picture shows nature and people above and below water at Korsnes in Hamarøy municipality. Above the water are Valletinden and Breiskartindan. On the sea, 2 young people are paddling with a dog on the board. Below the sea surface a young girl is swimming. She is surrounded by organisms that are shaped by the movements of the sea. A clump of seaweed takes on the shape of a sea god for a moment, and by his side a ballerina dances to her own rhythm.

Ceremonial room - "On a hike in Dalbotn" - Digital photo collage on foil.

The background motif was photographed in Håkvikdalen in Narvik municipality. The fauna there is very similar to that surrounding the hospital, and the fog light gave the subject a color tone that matched the rest of the color scale in the room. The walker with his back turned is a reference to the landscape paintings of the National Romantic period, and the reindeer and fox are animals that can be encountered on walks in the area.
